Sleepwalking or somnambulism often occurs during the deep stages of sleep. Most sleepwalkers don't act aggressively. But there are some cases where they can either pose a threat to others or to themselves. Here are some of the most unbelievable cases of somnambulism. #1 The 15-year old girl who climbed a 130-foot crane A passer-by could barely believe his eyes when he saw a young girl climbing the counterweight of a 130-foot crane. The girl was wearing her pyjamas. Rescuers who rushed to the scene confirmed that the girl was indeed sleepwalking. The fire fighters who climbed to her rescue were afraid to startle the young girl. So they let the parents wake her up through a cell phone to get her down safely. The girl's parents revealed that their daughter had a long history of sleepwalking but they didn't expect for her to climb a crane. #2 The man who drove 14 miles and killed his in-law Kenneth Parks is one of the most controversial sleepwalkers in the world of somnambulism. His case was called homicidal sleepwalking. Turns out, there were other few recorded cases in history where sleepwalkers kill their family members while asleep. Kenneth Parks got out of bed one night, drove 14 miles to his in-laws' home and stabbed his mother-in-law to death. After a thorough investigation, scientists discovered that Parks' EEG readings were highly irregular which supports his claims. He was eventually acquitted of his crimes. #3 The woman who cooks and eats while asleep 55-year old Lesley Cusack has decided to join a fitness club and change her daytime diet because of her serious sleepwalking problem during night-time. Her doctors call it sleep eating. Aside from that, she also cooks which is quite dangerous. In an attempt to wake herself up, Lesley installed door alarms in her bedroom and kitchen but to no avail. She consumes around 2500 calories at night. What's alarming is she also eats inedible items while asleep such as washing powder and Vaseline. #4 The woman having sex with strangers Psychologists call it 'sex somnambulism' or 'sleep sex'. In 2004, sleep experts studied the case of an Australian middle-aged married woman who had sex excursions while asleep. It lasted for several months. After frequently noticing scattered condoms around the house, she sought for help. She was admitted to a sleep laboratory to correct her problem. With the help of hypnotherapy Adelaide, sleep specialists have observed that the woman talks like a teenager while asleep. They also found out that she had higher number of arousals during her deep sleep stage. #5 The nurse who turns into a sleepwalking artist Being a nurse, Lee Hadwin used to think that only Hypnotherapy SA can put you in a trance. Apparently, sleep can too. Hadwin started showing his nocturnal talents when he was a teenager but the intensity heightened in his early 20s. Back then, he would find his walls and clothes all covered in artwork. Now, he sleeps beside his art materials to reduce renovation costs and clothing expenses. He has no recollections whatsoever of drawing upon waking the next morning.
